FG to deworm pupils in 17 states

The Federal Ministry of Health will in December deliver an integrated deworming programme for pupils in public primary schools across 17 states currently under the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo's spokesman, Laolu Akande, listed the benefitting states as Abia, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Niger, Osun, Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara, Anambra, Benue, Imo, Kano, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Delta and Plateau, He said the programme would deliver three different drugs for the treatment of diseases endemic to specific states; particularly bilharzia; soil-transmitted worms and river blindness. Akande mentioned the drugs to be distributed as Albendazole, Ivermectin and Parazaquintel. He said over five million pupils in 28,249 schools were currently being fed in Anambra, Enugu, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ebonyi, Zamfara, Delta, Abia, Benue, Plateau, Bauchi, Taraba, Kaduna, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Imo, Jigawa and Niger States.

How to prevent ‘toilet infections’

The Director of Womanhood, School of Health Science Kaduna, Hajiya Maryam Abubakar has said the rate of toilet infections among women and men has  become worrisome. She said it was worsened by negligence as people still engage in open defecation particularly in the rural areas. Hajiya Maryam in a statement to mark this year’s World Toilet Day said the perception that toilet infection was a feminine disease was wrong, adding that  men could easily get the infection by simply having sex with infected women. She said toilet infection is a condition in which  a person experiences discomfort such as burning, itching as well as unpleasant and foul odour coming out from the vagina.   “Many toilets in the country are an eye sore. BAYERO UNIVERSITY KANO MEDICAL STUDENTS EMERGED THE ACADEMIC CHAMPIONS OF THE NATION

Bayero university medical students emerged victorious at the maiden edition of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) intermedical school quiz competition held during the Nigerian Medical Students’ Association (NiMSA) annual general assembly which took place in Gombe State University, Gombe state. BUK medical students qualified for the National phase of the competition having qualified in the zonal phase where they also emerged the first position with a gap of 20 marks ahead of other schools (UDUS, GSU, KASU, UNIMAID). BUK medical students during the national quiz were represented by Aminu Ado Wakili, Abdulazeez Garba Ahmad, Ahmad hassan Jibril, Shaheed,and Lawal, where they emerged the first position with 9 marks ahead of the runner up, other schools who participated include UNN, Uni Ilorin, Uni Abuja, Uni calabar, UDUS and BINGHAM. BUMSA inaugurates new EXCOS for the 2017/2018 administrastion

Bayero university medical students’ Association, popular known as BUMSA gets new excos for the 2017/2018 administration. The new excos were inaugurated by the BUMSA elcomm on the 28th of October 2017 in the faculty of clinical science theatre Kandahar AKTH. Speaking during the anuguration, the newly inaugurated president, Kazaure, seeks the cooperation of all BUMSites, and promised the be an easily accessible president who will welcome advice and suggestions from all, and promised to take BUMSA towards a greater height. He also promised to continue from where the past administration stopped, as leadership is a continuous process. Present during the event is the immediate past president, Adamu Bala Hussein, who urged all BUMSites to cooperate with the newly inaugurated excos, and promised to always be available whenever his assistance is needed.
