Dr. O. Ochicha: Death of an Icon

It was on 06th of January 2018, an erudite giant in person of Dr. Ochica Ochicha from department of Histopathology at Bayero University kano-Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital has fallen. It’s indeed a great loss not only to the academics of BUK/AKTH but rather the community at large.

He was best known by the students for his sunday lectures usually at Multipurpose Hall to 400lvl MBBS/BDS students. His lecture style, gestures and behavior often spell his uniqueness. Not only to his students, his colleagues often address him as “Walking Library”.

Condolence message from Association of Resident Doctors reads like: “We regrettably express our condolences to the management of Bayero University /Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and family of Dr. Ochicha who recently passed away. He was our teacher and mentor. Until his death, Dr Ochicha was an associate professor in the department of Histopathology Bayero University Kano / Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.”

A controversy on whether he died a muslim or not has still remain a subject of discussion, though one of our lecturers stated that “But there's rumours everywhere that he accepted Islam few days ago, i just heard that he was heard to have recited the Shahada... and was repeating subhanallah... We're at the mortuary for his funeral arrangements. But there is high tension from the other side. So we want it to be partially confidential for now...”

Catch us for more details later.
