FG to deworm pupils in 17 states

The Federal Ministry of Health will in December deliver an integrated deworming programme for pupils in public primary schools across 17 states currently under the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme.


Vice President Yemi Osinbajo's spokesman, Laolu Akande, listed the benefitting states as Abia, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Niger, Osun, Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara, Anambra, Benue, Imo, Kano, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Delta and Plateau,
He said the programme would deliver three different drugs for the treatment of diseases endemic to specific states; particularly bilharzia; soil-transmitted worms and river blindness.
Akande mentioned the drugs to be distributed as Albendazole, Ivermectin and Parazaquintel.
He said over five million pupils in 28,249 schools were currently being fed in Anambra, Enugu, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ebonyi, Zamfara, Delta, Abia, Benue, Plateau, Bauchi, Taraba, Kaduna, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Imo, Jigawa and Niger States.
